So now we know officially what we seem to have known unofficially for many months. Tata’s purchase of Land Rover, when it was finally announced, came as no great surprise; but the overwhelmingly positive reaction by industry commentators and press is certainly very encouraging.
Land Rover hasn’t been in British ownership Ssince BMW took over some 14 years ago, yet the brand has maintained its unique ‘Britishness’ throughout. Hopefully that trend will continue under Tata and it will be fascinating to watch as the vehicles continue to develop over the coming years.
>> We hope that you enjoy the complimentary poster supplement in this issue and that you liked our ‘first 30 years’ poster last month. This month, the poster features Nick Dimbleby’s great inspirational photography that always makes me want to pack up the Land Rover and head out for the hills.
Work always seems to get in the way though...

>> Check out the story in our Upfront pages on the company that’s hiring out Land Rover Dormobile coversions for holiday-making in Scotland. What a great idea.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to tour the remotest parts of the Highlands in a Series Land Rover with your home on your back in the shape of a Dormobile? Trouble is, not many of us own such a vehicle and, if we do, it’s a long way to Inverness for most people.
This way a quick flight gets you to Scotland where your Land Rover awaits you at the airport. Excellent.
>> Isn’t it weird how car prices work. An LSE Range Rover (once priced at £30K+) can now be bought for a few hundred pounds. A Series One (once priced at a few hundred pounds) can now be bought for several thousand.
Supply and demand, I guess. |
