It's not a very clear photo, but we believe that the picture on page 8 is of a Land Rover engineering prototype LRX. It was spotted at the side of the road with a Land Rover backup vehicle in attendance on a known Land Rover testing route.

Those in the know say this means that the new model is probably only some nine months away from launch, which is an exciting prospect. The vehicle pictured has a four-door configuration – no doubt essential for its intended
market, but it will rob the LRX of much of the concept vehicle’s sporting appeal, which is a shame.

I must confess to being surprised that the project appears to be moving along
so quickly. With Land Rover still very much up for sale, it seemed likely that new model projects might be put on hold, but apparently not.

Curiously, I heard from a company insider that the deal with Tata had stalled as Ford have concluded that Land Rover and Jaguar are worth considerably more than first suggested.

How true that is I don’t know, but it’s an intriguing thought.

There’s no question that the new Jag XF is a gorgeous car and Land Rover’s model line isn’t too shabby, either.
Successful new models must
boost the value of the two companies, so you can see where Ford’s thinking might be coming from.
I’ve always believed that Ford have been good for Land Rover and Jaguar. Wouldn’t it be nice if Ford would hang on to these two quintessentially British brands a little bit longer?

>> If you’re a younger reader you might be inspired by our interview with Jez Waterman, the LRX’s exterior designer.
Jez talks about his approach to making sure he achieved his career goals which have culminated in the stunning LRX concept design.

Hold on to those dreams!
